Homemade Playdough

The girls and I made some playdough last week.  We called it "Christmas Playdough" because we added some pretty little red stars to the dough.  We didn't add any colour this time because we wanted it to look like cookie dough.  They have had so much fun playing with it and making their own little Christmas cookies.  I moved one of our many little kid tables to the kitchen so they can "bake" beside me.  It has been wonderful!

If you don't already have a copy of this homemade playdough recipe then I suggest you copy it now!  You and your little ones are in for loads of fun!  It's so easy to make and if you use the Kool-Aid it smells good too!

Homemade Playdough

1 small package of Kool-Aid drink mix (6 gram package)
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons cooking oil

Mix the water and cooking oil together in a bowl or large measuring cup.  Mix the dry

ingredients together in a pot.  Add the water and cooking oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir over medium heat until a ball forms.  Stir constantly.  Turn out on a floured surface. Knead 2 minutes. Enjoy the warmth of the playdough on your hands.  It's therapeutic!

Keep the playdough in an air tight container in the refrigerator when not playing with it.  This play dough can last for weeks!

Please note – if you do not have a package of Kool-Aid, you can use food colouring instead.  Simply add the food colouring (gel type makes the most vibrant colours) to the water and oil before mixing into the dry ingredients.  Scents such as lemon, mint, or rosewater can also be added to the water and oil.  You can also have fun by adding glitter, sparkles or small shapes like we did.

Have fun playing!
