I was so excited today to ship my first order off to Australia!  I love Australia!

Pilot: "Hold onto ya beers!"
My husband and I lived there in 2003 and 2004.  We had just married in the fall of 2002 and then flew off to Australia on January 3, 2003 to begin an unforgettable adventure in the Land Down Under.  We lived in Surfers Paradise in Queensland for a year and then moved to Melbourne in Victoria, where we lived for another year before heading home to Canada.  We had the most amazing two years of our life, traveling all around the country.  We were very lucky to see so much of the country and experience the culture as we lived and worked there.

Some of our favourite trips were to Tasmania, where we did lots of hiking and back-country camping (Cradle Mountain, Wine Glass Bay and Coles Bay), sailing through the Whitsunday Islands, Byron Bay, hiking and camping in Kakadu National Park, The Great Ocean Road, horseback riding in The Grampians, back-country camping in Wilson's Promontory, a flight in a 4 seater plane to Fraser Island, and of course, Uluru.

Some favourite highlights were going to the Australian Open, going to several 2003 Rugby World Cup games, including Canada vs. New Zealand (of course we got creamed but it was amazing to see the Kiwis play), meeting Russell Crowe and his band as well as Steve Irwin and his wife, Terri, and daughter, Bindi, while they joined us for the concert!  Encountering so much of Australia's beautiful, and sometimes deadly, wildlife.  We saw a huge python in the wild, were surrounded by Tasmanian Devils in our tent, and encountered a huntsman spider in our shower.  Not to mention endless sightings of kangaroos, wallabies and koalas!

Carpet least 10 feet long!
The Huntsman. Never had a shower without an inspection again!

On the beach in Melbourne

Triathlon in Noosa (I'm in the orange cap on the right, taking a minute to check for sharks!)
Double Rainbow...for real!
A visitor to our camp: Mr Wallaby, I presume.

You can see an Echindna, Blue Tongue Lizard and a Kookaburra below:

I could go on forever sharing our life in Australia, but that would be a really big post for you to read!  I'll have to blog about a campervan adventure we had in the New Zealand South Island sometime, too.
Surfers Paradise, QLD - you can actually see our apartment building near the bottom left!
Go Canada!
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about Australia and one day returning there.  Hopefully our next trip there will be with our two little girls!  Oh, how they will love it!
